Professional Disclosure Statement

Philosophy and Approach: My approach to counseling is based largely on a Humanistic, Client-Centered model. I believe that through collaboration with the therapist, clients are capable of acquiring an improved sense of self-awareness and self-efficacy. This improved sense of self enhances the client’s ability to learn and master skills for addressing stressful situations in ways that support healthy emotional and physical balance. I employ an eclectic approach with a reliance on the motivational techniques of cognitive-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral therapy.

Formal Education and Training: I hold a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College. Major course work included: Theory and Philosophy of Counseling, Legal and Ethical Issues of Counseling, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders, Counseling Individuals, Group Counseling, Assessment, Family Therapy, Lifespan Development, Career Counseling, Treatment Planning for Adults, Treatment Planning for Children & Adolescents, Addiction Treatment, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Counseling, Drugs the Brain and Behavior, Research Methods, Clinical Work with Diverse Populations, and Models of Addiction.
